About the Illustrator
Kristen Viera is an artist, educator, and nature-lover who also grew up in Chatham County. She works across mixed media, from painting and collage to ceramics and metal art, and is currently the artist-in-residence at The Plant in Pittsboro.

Kristen is also a PhD student in Ecology at UNC–Chapel Hill, studying how communities work together to protect people and the planet.

Her art and research share the same goal, fostering meaningful connections to the natural world and celebrating local plants and animals.
